How To Get The Degree Symbol On Iphone

Are you among those people who write the word degrees instead of using the ° degree symbol on iPhone? The sign is used as a universal symbol for the temperature degree symbol (either Celsius and Fahrenheit) and in mathematics for angles and direction among others.

When I was new to Apple devices, I didn't know how to insert the symbol either, and typed it out.

To avoid going through this, I'll show you how to key in the ° degrees symbol in your iPhone, iPad and iMac.

Using iPhone and iPad

Inserting the degree sign is simple if you're using the default iPad or iPhone's keyboard. However, it is relatively easier on other keyboards as well.

Open your iPhone or iPad keyboard app and ensure the iPad keyboard is up.
Tap the 123 key to access the numeric keyboard.
Long press the 0 (zero) key to initiate a little pop-up.
Among the iPhone symbols, look for the ° degree and tap to select it.

Using iMac

iMac users have it easier typing the °degree symbol than iPhone and iPad users. Unlike iPad and iPhone users, here you simply use the keyboard shortcut. Press Shift + Option + 8.

iMac has lots of keyboard shortcuts and you can easily forget this if you don't use it that often.

Alternatively, you can use the emoji menu (character viewer) to key in the ° degree symbol. Select Emojis and Symbols from the iPhone app menu bar. Type 'degree' in the search box and the ° degree sign will appear. Drag it to email, note, document, or wherever you want it.

Great tip: you can add the degree sign to your Favorites in the character viewer if you use it often.
